The Problem With Consumer Messaging Apps

World Vision staff working with youth programs need a safe way to communicate with youth participants. Consumer apps — WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Facebook Messenger — were not designed for professional adult-to-child interactions in a safeguarding context. They cannot be monitored by your organization. They expose personal phone numbers. They allow unsupervised private chats. And they cannot be controlled by WVI IT.

WVI’s safeguarding policy requires all staff-to-beneficiary communications to occur through approved, monitored channels. World Vision Connect is that channel — built specifically for WVI’s scale, and for the safeguarding standard your beneficiaries deserve.

The WhatsApp gap: When a safeguarding incident occurs in a WhatsApp conversation, there is no audit trail. No timestamp. No way to know who said what or whether a staff member responded appropriately. World Vision Connect closes that gap entirely.

Access not linked to phone numbers
Staff and youth are identified by role — personal phone numbers are never visible to anyone on the platform.
All chats logged and monitorable
Every message, video call, and file transfer is visible to moderators in the dashboard in real time.
Complete audit log
Every action — including message deletions — is timestamped and permanently recorded. Nothing disappears.
Data locked to the platform
Messages are not saved to personal devices. When a staff member leaves WVI, they immediately lose access — records stay.
Role-based access
Moderator, admin, staff, and youth each have different permissions. You see what your role allows. Youth cannot contact staff they have not been approved to contact.
Configurable restrictions
Time limits on youth messaging, group-only communication requirements, file scan before delivery.
Human moderator in the loop
AI pre-screens and flags — but you decide. No youth participant is ever contacted, restricted, or escalated without a human moderator making that call.
